Organisation

  • • 30 x 25 m grid, two neutral players play with the team in possession.
  • • Coach with footballs on the sideline.
  • • Bibs in two colours, neutrals in a third colour.

Rules

  • • Team in possession: 8 consecutive passes = 1 point.
  • • Winning the ball back within 5 seconds of losing it = 2 points.
  • • If unsuccessful within 5 seconds: coach calls 'stop' and the team drops off.
  • • Neutral players are restricted to a maximum of 2 touches.

Coaching points

  • • Nearest player immediately presses the ball.
  • • Second and third players lock down the short passing options.
  • • Can't win it back? Drop off together and get compact.
  • • In possession: maintain good distances (rest defence) to counter-press effectively if the ball is lost.

Variations

  • • Easier: allow 3 seconds of extra time to win the ball back.
  • • Harder: remove the neutral players (straight 5v5).
  • • With mini-goals: score immediately into one of four mini-goals upon regaining possession.
