From Club DNA to Training Week
How to translate a club vision into principles, developmental pathways, and ultimately a structured training week.
1. Start with who you are
Club DNA defines your values and identity. Keep it concise: three to five core terms that every coach can explain.
2. Make your football concrete
Translate that identity into a game model with principles for each phase of play: in possession, defensive transition, attacking transition, and out of possession.
3. Build a developmental pathway
Define which principles take priority for each age group. An U9 group focuses on entirely different foundations than an U17 squad.
4. Plan in cycles
Distribute your principles across the full season (macrocycle), multi-week blocks (mesocycle), and the training week itself (microcycle).
5. Choose purposeful practices
Every exercise must link directly to a specific principle. That way, you always understand the objective and know exactly what to coach.
