Playing style with Plan A and Plan B: how to choose for each match

A game model defines what you always do. A playing style defines how far you take it. Here is how to turn spectrums into a match plan.

01

A game model is not the same as a playing style

Your principles stay the same every week. How high you press, how quickly you play forward and how much risk you take will vary depending on the opposition.

02

Work with spectrums

For each aspect of play place a dot between two extremes: short or long, high or low, patient or direct. This lets you see your identity at a glance.

03

Plan A and Plan B

Plan A is your usual style. Plan B is the deliberate adjustment when the match unfolds differently than expected. Agree on both beforehand.

04

Bring it into training

For each training session specify which end of the spectrum you are working on. Over a season you will see whether your training really matches your style.
